In my latest YouTube video, I’m sharing the exact techniques I use to dramatically cut down blow dry time while also protecting the longevity of your extensions.
Start with a Rough Dry
One of the biggest mistakes I see is reaching for a brush while the extensions are still soaking wet.
Instead, begin with what’s called a rough dry. Use your blow dryer without a styling brush until your hair is about 90% dry. Removing most of the moisture first not only speeds up the process but also reduces unnecessary tension on your extensions.
Once your hair is mostly dry, then it’s time to smooth and style.
Use the Right Brushes
The tools you use make a huge difference.
My favorites are:
A soft bristle brush for smoothing over the extensions and creating a polished finish.
A metal detangling brush for gently working through the extensions and removing tangles without excessive pulling.
Using the correct brush at the right stage helps protect both your natural hair and your extensions.
Don’t Skip Sectioning
Another mistake that adds time to your routine is trying to dry everything at once.
Instead, section each row of your extensions and make sure you’re thoroughly drying the base where the extensions are attached. Leaving moisture trapped near the attachment points can affect comfort and the overall longevity of your install.
Taking a few extra moments to section properly will actually make your styling much faster and more effective.
The Biggest Game Changer
One of the biggest reasons my blow dry routine is so much faster today is that I’ve simplified my install.
I used to wear five to six rows of hand-tied hair.
