Platinum Blunt Bob to Dimensional 22" Blonde

Platinum Blunt Bob to Dimensional 22" Blonde

This Mane Monday features a dramatic blonde transformation created by Danielle K. White using ISLA Hair. The model was taken from a short, blunt, thick platinum bob to long, dimensional bombshell blonde hair with a soft, melty root and effortless movement.

The focus of this look is dimension, blend, and length that feels natural — not heavy, not overdone, and never harsh. The result is a modern blonde that moves beautifully, styles easily, and grows out seamlessly.

Let’s talk custom coloring — because hair is never just one shade.

Hair has multiple color variations, levels of porosity, and different fade patterns, and our job as artists is to anticipate that. The goal is to make this easier for you while also creating longevity and seamless fade-out between natural hair and extensions.

Now let’s break down this transformation.

This guest was a scalp-lightened platinum blonde, and we wanted to add soft, dimensional lowlights without compromising brightness. This can be one of the most challenging projects because porosity dictates everything — especially how lowlights grab and fade.

This is why I always recommend doing a test strand with multiple formulas before committing.

It eliminates the guesswork and guarantees better results.

With platinum blondes, color rarely settles perfectly in one session. It often takes multiple appointments to get the fade-out just right. That’s where custom coloring your wefts becomes a game changer — because if you know your client’s hair will fade faster or differently, you must anticipate that in the extensions so everything fades together, not separately.

Here’s what we did:

We used only two extension colors:
    •    10 (platinum with a root)
    •    10P (straight platinum, no root)
    •    Plus 10AWBL for dimension

Instead of doing a traditional lighter retouch, we did a highlight pattern, then placed lowlights in between the foils.

The lowlight formula (save this one 👇):

7NB + 8WG with a splash of 8G

⚠️ Porosity matters here
Depending on your test strand, you may want to:
    •    Pull the lowlight only halfway through
    •    Or open the foils and pull through the ends

Her test strand processed evenly, so we were able to pull the lowlight all the way through.

We did not tone her natural hair.

The contrast from the lowlight made her overall result appear cooler, which worked beautifully with the extensions. Since extensions are less porous than natural hair, we went one shade darker on the wefts and toned them with:

9V + 9N

This created a seamless blend that will fade together over time — not separately.

✨ That’s the difference between installing hair and mastering transformations.
