Why I Switched to Fewer Wefts (And Why My Fine Hair Has Never Been Healthier)

I have extremely fine, fragile hair. Truthfully, I’ve never had great hair, and after having four kids, I needed extensions more than ever. My natural hair and scalp are healthy—I simply don’t have a lot of hair.

After wearing extensions for nearly half my life, I’ve learned one thing that hasn’t changed:

Less attached to the scalp is almost always healthier.

Of course, the application matters just as much. A proper installation is what protects the hair and scalp long-term, but one mistake I see over and over is artists overloading the rows.

Stop Overloading Your Rows

Hair extension trends come and go. Techniques evolve. Even older methods eventually come back around.

But after more than a decade teaching Natural Beaded Rows® (NBR®), one principle has remained true:

Don’t overload your rows.

Adding more pieces doesn’t always create a better result. In many cases, it creates unnecessary weight, longer styling time, and more stress on fine hair.

That’s exactly why we continue to innovate.

Why I’m Obsessed with the Volume Genius Weft

One of my favorite new products we’ve ever launched is the Volume Genius Weft.

I personally went from wearing 10 pieces of hand-tied hair down to only 5 wefts total—while actually creating more fullness.

Here’s my current setup:

That means I can achieve incredible fullness with far fewer attachment points on my scalp.

Even better?

The Volume Genius Weft lays incredibly flat, and I’ve actually noticed my blow-dry time at the base is faster because I’m working with fewer attachment points.
